Honestly, I think it’s her best project yet. I know, I know… we don’t like the shots at Cardi or Lil Kim or any kind of (blackgirl on blackgirl hate), but the rap game been what it is. It’s about being the best, the dopest, the illest, the trillest — the absolute most of whatever you need to be at the time. We can’t possible expect Nicki to suddenly make amends with her rival and arch nemesis. What we can expect, is for her to come hard.

In the heart of Harlem, Lizzy Chanel hosts her annual Rock The Stage Concert to showcase the up and coming artists she believes in. I came in as a +1 for Damatrix Studios and while I love to cover music industry events, there’s almost nothing I want more than to grab the mic myself. The only thing that can soothe me in these moments is pure appreciation; Lizzy Chanel is a hell of a lady & she picks a hell of a line up and I had nothing but respect for her & everyone who graced the stage.

I had the opportunity to attend and cover rapper Kidd Flash’s album release party for his debut project, Ya’ll Gon’ Kno’!
Held on August 13, 2015 at Kabin Lounge in Washington, D.C., the event featured an Artist Talk with Kidd Flash hosted by journalist Gia Peppers, as well as performances by the artist himself!
Kidd Flash is actually the son of singer Ginuwine, and has inherited his father’s love and passion for music, although he leans toward the hip hop side. The young rapper definitely has potential to make a name for himself in the industry.

A legend has left New York’s Hot97. I’ve always admired Angie, as she’s been a role model for all women in Hip-Hop. She’s one of the most highly respected radio hosts I can recall, and her interviews are always insightful and genuine. As a (borderline obsessed) Jay-Z fan, she’s the only person I’ve trusted to give me honest information, providing artists with a comfortable and non-judgmental space to clear the air. Her instragram is light on the solo-selfies but littered with celebrities. Still, she’s always seemed to maintain a humble attitude. To me, Angie is something like a Oprah or Diane Sawyer. Few people can address such highly regarded celebrities and remain their humanity.

Today on The Spotlight, we have hip hop artist Jaybird! Hailing from San Diego, CA, Jaybird got his start in music very early. Growing up in a musical family and influenced by his own father’s R&B group, “The Isles,” the rapper started singing at the age of five. However, all wasn’t easy for him. “My parents were divorced, though both stayed in my life,” he said. “My mom always kept me and my big brother in nice neighborhoods, but because of that, money was tight.” Holding on to faith and family, Jaybird acknowledges his upbringing is what made him a stronger artist.
