Making HERstory w/ @ArticulateNYC at @TheNest

Celebrated Black history month, appropriately by touching the mic for ArticulateNYC’s “HER”story open mic, which focused on celebrating women of color. I was more than honored to bring Tunisia on stage at The Nest with me, for the first song I’ve actually created with someone — and a woman at that! ArticulateNYC’s founder, Anya, is also a woman and that just made it all sweeter.

I met Iixel at PYNK Wednesdays and am so glad I got to see her perform. The most important thing about being on stage is your presence. Iixel popped out with all her girls who held it down for her all night. When he song came on, you better believe they knew every word. After checking on her soundcloud, it’s hard to deny that honey girl has a banger.

Honestly, I think it’s her best project yet. I know, I know… we don’t like the shots at Cardi or Lil Kim or any kind of (blackgirl on blackgirl hate), but the rap game been what it is. It’s about being the best, the dopest, the illest, the trillest — the absolute most of whatever you need to be at the time. We can’t possible expect Nicki to suddenly make amends with her rival and arch nemesis. What we can expect, is for her to come hard.

In the heart of Harlem, Lizzy Chanel hosts her annual Rock The Stage Concert to showcase the up and coming artists she believes in. I came in as a +1 for Damatrix Studios and while I love to cover music industry events, there’s almost nothing I want more than to grab the mic myself. The only thing that can soothe me in these moments is pure appreciation; Lizzy Chanel is a hell of a lady & she picks a hell of a line up and I had nothing but respect for her & everyone who graced the stage.
