I actually hate going to the gym. In an attempt to find an exercise I like and fit exercise into my schedule more frequently, I decided to challenge myself to 30 days of yoga. For the first few days, I was really on track. It felt great to accomplish such a small goal everyday. Sometimes, I was able to do yoga first thing in the morning & it really set me off on a good foot. I would bring the dog with me so I was able to knock out 2 tasks at once 💪🏾 adding this “to-do item” to my day helped me started getting up earlier & ultimately, get more out of my day 🤷🏽♀️
Sometimes, I had to do my yoga session after I got home from work. I usually get home around 8pm, so I can’t (would rather not) do yoga outside in the dark. Shallow as it might sound, assigning myself this challenge also forced to get my apartment together. I had to find the space to do yoga & that means more than just space, it also needs to be comfortable & zen (& a decent background so I can post a clip online). I had to clean & rearrange my house so that Yoga could come easy.
After about a week, I was really falling off but I decided that since I gave myself the challenge, I’m allowed to create my own rules. The 30-Day challenge is still in progress, it’s just not 30 days in a row. As I cut myself some slack, I totally learned another lesson — I decide what my goals are for myself. Having the challenge still encourages me to finish up the 30 days, even if they aren’t consecutive.
This small challenged helped me learn a ton of things about myself, first & foremost that I actually like yoga. I could have quit, but I didn’t. I need to be doing more of what I love, even if it’s only a little bit at a time. I want to become more flexible, in yoga and life. While I want to challenge myself, not everything in life needs to be a true “challenge”… some things should be easy & less pressure intensive. This goal & its double entendre have challenged me on physical and spiritual planes.
Is there an activity you’d like to challenge yourself to? I think I wanna rollerblade more 🤔 I hope you find the time to think about what you wanna do… and I hope you do it — for your health & sanity 😉
