It’s been a while since I touched the mic, but The Sound Series gave me exactly what I needed. This Brooklyn open mic is both organized and dope. As advertised, sign ups are from 6-7 and go smoothly because you’re asked to show up with a hard drive & you only get 1 song.
While I hate being limited, I appreciate the 1 song limit at an open mic because it just makes the night move fast. IT also forced me to pick the song I’m really trying to promote at the moment. I chose “Ice Cold” because I think people like to hear me since before I rhyme. Do I look like a rapper? At any rate, I feel like it’s a smooth opening. I sometimes wish it was the actual first track on my project.
There were a bunch of other dope artists there, but you’ll have to check out Dinner Land and Sound Series to see them — I went to perform not to do write ups lol 😉 It’s was super trappy, so it was a great night. After my performance, I stayed the entire night and danced to songs I had never heard before. These guys are really talented and get some amazing work done in the studio. It was evident a lot of the people in there were “just starting out” because they mostly just sang over their tracks… but it’s never too bad of a thing if you like the track to begin with.
I plan on showing up & showing out again. Hope to see you there 🙂
