Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events is the perfect family binge show. The quirky, comedic mystery follows 3 bright, abruptly orphaned children as they find their way while Neil Patrick Harris (Count Olaf) tries to “trick” the kids and inherit their fortune. Patrick Warburton’s (Lemony Sniket) monotone narrative reminds me of the guy from All State’s mayhem commercials. The kids, Malina Weissman (Violet) and Louis Hynes (Klaus) do a great job as well. The baby (Sunny) is sometimes obviously doubled with a doll and I find it hilarious. *shrugs*
The vocabulary of the show is what amuses me the most. Within the script, the characters explain words. There are even funny moments when the children respond, “we know what that means.” When I noticed bae’s 8 year-old son staring deer-eyed into the screen, I know I found a winner. If we can watch TV and learn, it’s pretty much all we’re doing. Gather the kids and binge this one on a cold, quiet weekend. I recommend pairing with Alex’s chocolate mug cake or Hani’s pretzel and chocolate treats đ
Enjoy!
